About this map

Nanos and the surrounding rangeland of Osage County appear here during a period of transition in the Oklahoma oil fields. The landscape is defined by the drainage networks of Wild Hog Creek, Mud Creek, and Cedar Creek, which carve through the Caney region. Industrial activity is evident through numerous Oil Wells and a Gas Well, alongside a Quarry near the eastern boundary. The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad serves as the primary transportation artery, passing through the small settlement of Nanos. In the southern portion of the map, the Strike Axe area includes the Pappin Cem and the small community of Opah, providing valuable markers for genealogical research. The topography is further distinguished by the Twin Mounds, prominent elevations that overlook the creek valleys and the rail line.
