The boundary between Big Horn and Yellowstone counties bisects this landscape of drainages and historic routes in south-central Montana. The terrain is defined by the winding paths of Telegraph Cr and its northern branch, N Telegraph Cr, which carve through the high plains. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, Fly Cr creates additional relief as it moves through the prairie. This 2017 survey documents a modern transportation network that traces much older paths, including the alignment of Old US Hwy 87 and Hardin Rd. These routes represent the historical infrastructure connecting the rural ranching and agricultural lands between the major valley settlements of the region.
