The confluence of the North Fork Jump River and the South Fork Jump River forms the central hydrological feature of this Northwoods landscape, where the waters merge into the Jump River as it flows south toward the Taylor County line. Most of this terrain is situated within the Chequamegon National Forest, characterized by extensive wetlands and meandering tributaries like Silver Cr and Hobbles Creek. Human presence is defined by a rigid grid of rural thoroughfares, including Fourth Principal Meridian Road and Pennington Road, which cut through the township boundaries of Catawba, Ogema, and Westboro. The prevalence of numerous Gravel Pits along these routes suggests a landscape of active resource extraction, while Hallberg Hill provides one of the few named topographic elevations in an otherwise saturated riverine environment.
