Daniel Boone National Forest dominates the southern half of this landscape, where the ridges and hollows of the Cumberland Plateau transition toward the Bluegrass region. In the northern sections, the settlements of Owingsville, Olympia, and Olympia Springs are connected by a network of rural roads such as State Hwy 965 and Hart Pike. The terrain is defined by prominent peaks including Mt Olympus, North Knob, and Big Mtn, which rise sharply above the numerous winding tributaries of Slate Creek and Mud Lick Cr.
