The South Fourche LaFave River cuts through the high ridges of the Ouachita National Forest, anchoring a landscape defined by isolated mountain settlements and family lineages. The small community of Onyx sits near the river's bend, while Aly and Stillwater occupy the valleys to the south along Irons Fork. These hamlets are connected by a network of forest roads and the Onyx Trl, which traverses the high ground between Long Mtn and Bear Head Mtn.
