The Rio Grande snakes along the international border in this coastal landscape, defining the southern edge of the Palmito Hill area. This terrain is characterized by numerous lomas, or small elevated hills, rising above the surrounding wetlands and tidal flats. Notable landmarks include Loma de la Jauja, Loma del Cenizal, and Loma del Muerto, reflecting the region's deep cultural and geographical history. Near the center of the sheet, the Palmito Hill Cem sits near the site of the last land action of the American Civil War.
