Green Valley Cemetery and Alajoki Cemetery provide distinct landmarks in this corner of Becker County, where the landscape is defined by the winding paths of the Blueberry River and the Kettle River. The area exhibits a pattern of small, scattered glacial basins such as Knutson Lake, Shipman Lake, and Blueberry Lake, connected by a grid of rural roads like Hubbard Line Rd and County Hwy-136. The northern reach is dominated by the Shell River as it moves through Knutson Lake, while the southern portion of the sheet is characterized by the low-lying drainage of the Kettle River. This 2010 survey illustrates the persistence of small family cemeteries and the network of township roads, including Straight River Twp Hwy 1, that serve the isolated farmsteads and wetlands of north-central Minnesota.
