Pastura serves as the central focal point of this 2017 survey, located where the rail line and state highways intersect in the high desert of Guadalupe County. The terrain to the west is defined by the significant rise of Argonne Mesa, which is flanked by several prominent drainage features including Little Canyon and Collins Canyon. These landforms illustrate the transition from the mesa's heights down toward the surrounding plains.
