Mansfield and its northeastern suburbs anchor the southern half of this landscape, where the urban expansion of Lincoln Heights, Wooster Heights, and East Mansfield meets the agricultural fields of the Richland and Ashland county border. To the north, the terrain remains predominantly rural, dotted with small communities like Pavonia and Paradise Hill. The Black Fork Mohican River and its tributaries, including Whetstone Cr and Brubaker Cr, wind through the township, eventually feeding into the expansive Charles Mill Lake in the southeast. Numerous small family and community burial grounds, such as Franklin Church Cem, Imhoff Cem, and Smeltzer Cem, are scattered throughout the sections, providing a clear record of early land ownership and settlement patterns in these Ohio townships.
