The Pedro Oil Field anchors the western landscape of this Wyoming region, situated just north of the small settlement at Pedro. The terrain is defined by a series of steep drainages and canyons, including Black Canyon, Coyote Canyon, and Blacktail Canyon, which feed into local waterways like Skull Cr and Oil Cr. Human modification of this arid environment is evident in the water management systems, notably the Bernard Howell Reservoir and Y B Reservoir. Cattle ranching legacies are preserved through named homesteads such as Allen Ranch, Engle Ranch, and the Home Ranch, which is supported by the nearby Home Ranch Spring. Near the southern boundary, the Mondell Field Airport serves as a vital transportation link, situated adjacent to Dunham Rd and the corridor of Oil City Rd.
