Petaca Peak and Petaca Mesa anchor this landscape along the border of Taos and Rio Arriba counties. Much of the western terrain is protected within the Carson National Forest, where a network of water management features like Tio Gordito Tank and Comanche Number Two Tank supports the arid environment. The eastern portion of the map is defined by the dramatic descent into Servilleta Canyon and the winding course of the Arroyo Aguaje de la Petaca.
