
The Wind River cuts a wide, braided path through the high peaks of the Philip Smith Mountains in this 2017 study of the Alaskan North Slope. This remote arctic drainage exhibits the complex hydrography of an unmanaged river system, where seasonal glacial melt and runoff create a shifting network of gravel bars and multiple channels. The steep vertical relief shown in the surrounding topography illustrates the dramatic transition from the high Brooks Range peaks down toward the north-flowing river valley. Because this area remains largely undeveloped, the map focuses on the raw physical landscape and the official township and range boundaries, including t11s r20e and t12s r20e, which provide the only structural grid for navigation in this wilderness.
