About this map

The Continental Divide bisects this remote Alaskan landscape, marking the high-altitude boundary between major drainage basins in the North Slope Borough. To the south, the headwaters of the Middle Fork Chandalar River carve through the mountain terrain, eventually flowing toward the Yukon River system. In the northwest corner, the waters of Accomplishment Creek flow in the opposite direction, part of the watershed draining toward the Arctic Ocean. Published in 1975 from 1970 aerial photography, the map reveals a wilderness without established roads or trails, characterized by deep glacial valleys and sharp ridgelines. The land lines shown represent predetermined but unmarked locations according to the Bureau of Land Management, highlighting the unmapped and unsurveyed nature of the Brooks Range during this period of geological study.
