The Chipp River snakes through this arctic landscape within the North Slope Borough, carving a complex network of meanders and oxbow lakes across the tundra. This 2020 survey illustrates a region defined by its hydrology, where nearly the entire surface is saturated with wetlands and unnamed thermokarst lakes. The absence of permanent roads or settlements reflects the extreme isolation of this coastal plain environment, which remains largely defined by the natural movement of water and seasonal shifts in the permafrost. Public Land Survey System boundaries like T16n R14w and T15n R14w provide the only structural grid over this otherwise fluid and changing terrain, which is primarily managed for environmental and indigenous significance.
