The Noatak National Preserve encompasses most of this landscape, where the high ridges of the De Long Mountains reach across the northern extent. This 2015 survey reveals a remote Arctic drainage system dominated by the south-flowing Aniuk River along the western margin and the winding course of Picnic Cr, which cuts diagonally through the central townships. The map is a study in hydrography and high-latitude topography, documenting the complex network of unnamed tributaries feeding into Mechanic Cr and Singayoak Cr. Without roads or permanent settlements, the area remains an untouched wilderness defined by its elevation contours and protected status within the Brooks Range system.
