By the early 1960s, the small mountain communities of Phoenicia, Allaben, and Chichester were well-established along these vital transport lines. The map reveals a landscape defined by steep peaks like Romer Mountain and Tremper Mtn, the latter featuring a distinctive Lookout Tower.

Local history is preserved in numerous family and community sites, from the Shandaken Rural Cem near Allaben to the Ouleout Central Sch further south. The convergence of numerous mountain streams, including Stony Clove Creek and Woodland Creek, into the Esopus illustrates the complex drainage system of the Shandaken region before significant modern development altered these traditional Catskill corridors.
