The area is defined by the convergence of three counties—Collin, Fannin, and Hunt—where the headwaters of numerous creeks like Indian Creek, Arnold Creek, and Pot Rack Creek carve through the terrain. This survey was produced in collaboration with the North Texas Municipal Water District and the Board of Water Engineers, highlighting the region's importance for water resource management.

For genealogists, the map is particularly valuable for its density of family-named burial grounds. Significant local history is preserved at sites like Indian Creek Cem, Fuller Cem, Lee Cem, and Du Laney Cem, which are often the only remaining physical markers of nineteenth-century pioneer families in this part of the state. Small-scale industrial activity is also noted via several quarries, suggesting the extraction of local limestone or road base material common to the Blackland Prairie.
