The border of Winston Co and Neshoba Co defines the lower third of this rural Mississippi landscape, centered on the historic community of Plattsburg. During the early 1970s, the area remained a network of timbered hills and creek bottoms, anchored by long-standing rural institutions. Numerous churches served as social hubs for the surrounding farmsteads, including Indian Spring Ch, Antioch Ch, and Sand Hill Ch. The topography is etched by several drainage systems, notably Pinishook Creek and Alampa Creek, which converge to the west. Evidence of local industry appears in the scattered Sandpit sites, while the presence of the Lee Cem and several unnamed cemeteries highlights the deep genealogical roots of this region. The southern edge of the survey captures the edge of Arlington, showing the road network as it transitioned into the neighboring county.
