Poison Basin and the topographic prominence of the Poison Buttes characterize this high-desert landscape near the Wyoming-Colorado border. The southern portion of the map is defined by the winding course of the Little Snake River, where an extensive network of irrigation infrastructure including the Gibson Blair Ditch, Woodbury Ditch, and Heeley Ditch supports local agricultural efforts. This system of ditches and the presence of numerous small catchments like Dead Tree Reservoir and Spragg Reservoir illustrate the critical importance of water management in this arid region. High-country access is provided by the Shell Creek Stock Trl and Poison Buttes Rd, while the Red Creek Rim provides a sharp natural boundary to the north of the basin floor.
