The Owens River valley floor meets the rising slopes of the White-Inyo Range in this 2015 study of the landscape near Bishop. This region is defined by an extensive system of water management infrastructure, where the Rawson Canal, Collins Canal, and Geiger Canal distribute water across the arid basin. Near the settlement of Poleta, the terrain shifts abruptly from the flat valley containing the Owens Valley Eastern Sierra Regional Airport and East Line Cemetery to the steep, drainage-cut slopes of Poleta Canyon and Redding Canyon. To the east, the boundary of the Inyo National Forest marks the transition into the higher elevations of the range, while the valley floor is dotted with landmarks like Saunders Lake and the winding course of Freeman Cr.
