Owens Valley irrigation and water management define the landscape east of Bishop, where an intricate network of man-made waterways including the Rawson Canal, Collins Canal, Bishop Cr Canal, and Big Pine Canal weave through the basin. This survey documents the complex hydrological engineering required to support the region, centered around the Owens River and Saunders Lake. The valley floor transitions abruptly to the steep, rising elevations of the White-Inyo Range to the east, much of which is protected within the Inyo National Forest.
