Remote outposts like Tucannon Guard Sta and Godman Springs Guard Sta represent the early administrative presence in the mountains. The northern half of the sheet reveals a complex network of creeks and ridges, such as Pataha Flat and Skyhawk Ridge, that dictated the placement of early settlements like Pataha City and the neighboring Pataha Cem. This document preserves the exact placement of these small-scale community hubs before later 20th-century consolidation changed the rural social geography of Garfield and Columbia Counties.
