The coastal gateway of Ponce and the surrounding shoreline dominate this topographical study of southern Puerto Rico. The landscape transition from the high relief of Peñón de Ponce down to the Caribbean coast reveals a complex network of maritime and urban development. Along the western edge of the city, the Cementerio Municipal de la Playa and the recreational grounds of Balneario El Tuque serve as significant local landmarks near the water's edge.
