Industrial activity and rugged terrain define this portion of the Colorado landscape in the early 1970s. The Energy Mine (Strip) and Edna Mine (Strip) dominate the northern and eastern sections of the map, illustrating the significant role of surface mining in the local economy. Supporting this industry is the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad, which winds through the hills alongside a Tipple used for loading coal.

Evidence of earlier rural life persists through the presence of the Foidel Sch and Trout Creek Sch, located near their namesake waterways. To the south, the terrain rises into the Routt National Forest, marked by prominent landmarks like Pinnacle Peak and Rattlesnake Butte. A network of paths, including the Eckman Park Trail and various unnamed jeep trails, provides access to the high country of Twentymile Park and the canyons of Middle Fork Bear Creek.
