Reed Reservoir and a series of smaller highland catchments define this arid landscape in Uinta County. The terrain is a complex of elevated flats and drainages, including the prominent Cottonwood Bench and the steep recesses of Crooked Canyon to the northwest. This 2021 survey reveals a landscape heavily managed for water storage in an otherwise dry environment, with numerous named basins such as Whisky Reservoir, Clematis Reservoir, and Balsam Root Reservoir scattered throughout the high-country draws.
