Mammoth Cave National Park dominates the eastern half of this landscape, where the Green River carves a deep, winding path through a complex network of ridges and hollows. The river's course is punctuated by landmarks like Crump Island, Stice Island, and Boardcut Island, reflecting the intricate fluvial geography of Edmonson County. Historically significant sites are scattered throughout the park and surrounding rural areas, including Silent Grove Baptist Church Cem and the Good Spring Cem.

Outside the park boundaries, the settlements of Brownsville, Rhoda, and Chalybeate anchor the region's road network. The terrain is characterized by a dense concentration of named karst features and valleys such as Wildcat Hollow, Sugarcamp Hollow, and Double Sink. To the north, the Nolin River and First Cr Lake provide further evidence of the water-driven geography that has shaped this part of Kentucky, from its underground caverns to its surface drainage.
