Roman Nose dominates this high-altitude landscape within the Kanisku National Forest in northern Idaho. The topography is defined by a series of prominent peaks and high ridges, including Cooks Peak, Bottleneck Peak, and the long stretches of Caribou Ridge and Ruby Ridge. Glacial cirques have left behind a collection of alpine water bodies such as Roman Nose Lakes, Bottleneck Lake, Brooks Lake, and Cooks Lake, which feed the numerous drainage systems that descend into the valleys.
