Roosevelt sits at the northern edge of this West Texas landscape, where the North Llano River carves through the limestone plateau of western Kimble County. The terrain is defined by deep incisions like Buck Hollow and Deep Hollow, which funnel water toward the river valley. Further south, the landscape rises toward Patterson Ridge and the distinct opening at Mexican Gap.

Family landholdings and small rural outposts characterize the area's mid-century development. Evidence of early settlement and ranching life is found at the Cedar Hill Cem near Cedar Hill, and at named homesteads including the Maynard Ranch, Wilson Place, and Mansfield Ranch. The drainage patterns of Maynard Creek and its West Fork illustrate the ranching geography of the 1960s, prior to later modern highway revisions.
