The glacial upland known as the Coteau des Prairies defines the geography of this Nobles County landscape, where the town of Round Lake sits surrounded by numerous prairie potholes and wetlands. This 2022 survey illustrates a highly modified drainage network designed to manage the high water table, featuring engineered waterways such as Judicial Ditch Number Thirteen and County Ditch Number Ten. These ditches crisscross the section lines, cutting through the natural terrain to feed into the W Fork Little Sioux River.
