The Rowe settlement serves as a primary waypoint along the northern edge of this New Mexico landscape, situated where the high ground of Glorieta Mesa meets the valley of the Pecos River. The community's spiritual and family history is anchored by several sites, including Saint Josephs Chapel, the Saint Josephs Chapel Cem, and the Rowe Cem. To the east, the settlement of Pajarita is positioned near the dramatic descent of Cañon Pajarita and the prominent Punta Pajarita.

Transitioning south from the river valley, the terrain rises into the protected reaches of the Santa Fe National Forest. This area is defined by a network of drainage features like Cañon Ancho and Cañon Cedro, as well as numerous livestock and water management points such as Jim Dandy Tank and Gonzales Tank. The presence of the Ojo De La Vaca Trl suggests long-standing transit corridors through these canyons, connecting the mesa highlands to the river lowlands.
