About this map

Bogus Creek meanders across the southeastern corner of this landscape, its path defined by a complex network of wetlands and small lakes within the Bethel Census Area. The terrain is dominated by a dense concentration of unnamed water bodies and marshy lowlands typical of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region. The Bogus Creek drainage represents the primary named hydrologic feature in an otherwise nearly feature-sparse area, where the primary organizational structure is provided by the Public Land Survey System grids including t14n r62w and t15n r62w. Without established roads or settlements, the map illustrates the raw, untouched hydrography of the Alaskan interior as it appeared during the 2017 survey. The high density of ponds and smaller drainage channels suggests a low-lying basin subject to significant seasonal shifts in water levels and terrain stability.
