About this map

Slate Ridge dominates the high desert terrain of the Esmeralda County and Nye County border, where remote mining claims once drew prospectors into the arid landscape. This late-1960s survey records the legacy of resource extraction through operations like the Silver Moon Mine, Gold Coin Mine, and Rattlesnake Mine. Water sources were critical in this environment, evidenced by Tokop Well and Anderson Well located near the base of the ridges. The eastern edge of the map shows an Old Railroad Grade, a significant piece of transportation history that once linked these remote mining districts to larger markets. Dozens of miles of Jeep Trails and unnamed trails crisscross the hills, marking the path of exploration through the dramatic topography of Hells Gate.
