Kenai Fjords National Park and the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge define this coastal reach of the Kenai Peninsula. The landscape is dominated by the narrow, deep-water corridor of the Nuka Passage, which separates the mainland from Nuka Island to the east. Along the western coastline, Tonsina Bay cuts deep into the terrain below the heights of Brown Mtn, providing a protected harbor screened by Long Island.
