About this map

Glacial ice and high-altitude valleys dominate this mid-century survey of the Kenai Peninsula within the Chugach National Forest. The landscape is defined by the massive Wolverine Glacier, Mother Goose Glacier, and Ellsworth Glacier, which carve through the peaks of Andy Simons Mountain and Paradise Peak. A primary artery through this wilderness is the Paradise Valley Trail, which connects the drainage of the Paradise River to the Snow River via Snow River Pass. Human presence is minimal, represented only by isolated structures such as a Shelter Cabin near Upper Paradise Lake and other scattered Cabins. This map records a time of early aerial photogrammetry in Alaska, capturing the exact extent of crevasses and snowfields before decades of glacial retreat altered these alpine water sources.
