Shaffer Mountain dominates this Lassen County landscape, rising sharply above the expansive Honey Lake Valley. The eastern slopes of the mountain are crisscrossed by numerous 4wd tracks that descend toward Mud Flat, a notable geographical feature in the northern portion of the quadrangle. In the lower elevations, small-scale agricultural and ranching infrastructure is evident near the settlement of Tanner, which includes a Dairy and several Corral sites.
