Shoshone Meadows Springs and a series of high-desert water sources define this remote stretch of the Nevada interior along the border of Lander and Churchill Counties. Surveyed in the mid-1960s, the landscape is a complex network of arid basins and steep ranges, where survival and movement historically depended on intermittent water points like Shone Springs, Cain Spring, and Mud Spring.

Evidence of resource extraction and ranching infrastructure appears in the form of a solitary Mine and livestock watering sites such as Hole in the Wall Well. The topography is dominated by the massive Clan Alpine Mts and the Augusta Mountains, with the Dixie Valley providing a flat corridor for travel. This survey documents the area's transition between the high peaks and the broad alluvial fans, connected only by a rugged Jeep Trail winding through Mud Canyon.
