Silver Lake Basin serves as a central hub for the hydrological network of Marquette County’s interior. This upland landscape is defined by the headwaters of the Yellow Dog River and the Dead River, where the terrain creates distinct drops such as Pinnacle Falls, Mulligan Falls, and Wylie Falls. The presence of Silver Lead Mine Lake points to the region's industrial past, while the sprawling Yellow Dog Plains and Mulligan Plains characterize the open, high-elevation plateau. Movement through this wilderness is facilitated by the N Country National Scenic Trail, which skirts the northern shore of the basin. The map reveals a complex system of smaller water bodies, including Rocking Chair Lakes and Penny Lake, often accessed only by unpaved routes like Silver Lake Rd and Triple A Rd. This 2019 survey documents a landscape preserved for its natural features and heritage trails.
