The town of Sleepy Eye serves as the central hub of this Brown County landscape, defined by a grid of agricultural section lines and a complex water management system. To the north of the settlement, County Ditch Number Thirteen and County Ditch Number Ten illustrate the intensive drainage efforts used to reclaim fertile farmland from the prairie wetlands. The natural geography is still visible in features like the Rose Lake Bed and the winding course of the Cottonwood River which cuts through the southern portion of the quadrangle.
