The San Juan River carves through the heart of this landscape, its waters widening into the eastern reaches of Lake Powell near the southwestern corner of the quadrangle. This 1989 provisional edition illustrates a convergence of administrative and natural boundaries, where the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area meets the northern edge of the Navajo Indian Reservation. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes and named landmarks such as Shaw Arch and Government Bird Rock.
