The high desert terrain of Hudspeth County is defined here by the Finlay Mountains and the sparse infrastructure of the Trans-Pecos region. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, the community of Small serves as a primary reference point near the crossing of Lasca Branch Rd. The landscape is characterized by its arid drainage patterns, with numerous ephemeral water features and tanks essential for ranching and resource extraction, including the Oil Well Tank, Finlay Mountain Tank, and Telephone Tank.
