Snow Peak anchors this high-elevation landscape in Marion County, serving as the topographical focal point for a dense network of mountain drainages. The area is defined by its complex hydrology, where the Roaring River and South Roaring River carve through the southern terrain while Thomas Creek and its many tributaries, such as Grimmial Creek and Ella Creek, dominate the central and northern slopes. A rare flat opening in the timbered highlands appears at Indian Prairie, adjacent to the small Indian Prairie Lake. Human imprints are primarily limited to a sparse network of forest roads like Cedar Mill Rd and Thomas Creek Dr, as well as the high-altitude Thomas Cairn. This 2011 survey captures the area's transition from the drainage of Bilyeu Creek in the west toward the steep ravines of Devils Den.
