Lake Billy Chinook and the dramatic confluence of the Deschutes River and Crooked River define this landscape in the early 1990s. The terrain transitions from the high plateaus of Lower Desert and The Peninsula down into the steep Crooked River Gorge. Much of the eastern and southern portion of the map is dedicated to the Crooked River National Grassland, reflecting a land use pattern focused on conservation and public range.
