1904 Map of Stehekin

About this map

Stehekin sits at the head of a deep alpine valley where the Stehekin River meets the northern reach of a long, narrow lake. This early 20th-century landscape is defined by the massive peaks of the Cascade Range, including Bonanza Peak and North Star Mtn.. The geography reveals a remote industrial and transit network centered on the Holden Railroad and the mining settlement at Holden. While much of the terrain is managed within the Mt Baker National Forest and Wenatchee National Forest, small lakeside outposts like Lucerne and Moore indicate the early importance of water-based access to these interior reaches. Further north, trails lead toward Gilbert and over Twisp Pass, connecting isolated watersheds across the Chelan Okanogan Co line. The map highlights significant natural landmarks such as Rainbow Falls and the high basins of Lyman Lake.
