Saguaro Lake dominates the central landscape of this mid-1960s survey, formed by the impoundment of the Salt River at Stewart Dam. This region of the Tonto National Forest exhibits a complex water management and recreation system, centered on the Stewart Mtn Dam Powerhouse and the nearby Saguaro del Norte Recreation Area. The infrastructure of the era is clearly marked, from the Blue Point Ranger Sta and Gaging Station to the Bush Highway and various Jeep Trails that penetrate the surrounding desert.
