The boroughs of Stoneboro and Sandy Lake anchor this 1911 survey of eastern Mercer County, where the industrial and agricultural landscape was defined by the confluence of the Bessemer and Lake Erie RR and the Pennsylvania RR. This rail junction supported a dense network of rural communities, including Sheakleyville, Milledgeville, and Jackson Center. The interior is marked by dozens of one-room schoolhouses such as Ross School, Klingensmith School, and Cass Ridge School, which served the farming families of Deer Creek and New Vernon townships.
