Stud Horse Butte rises above an arid landscape in Sublette County, defined by a network of seasonal drainages and access roads managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This high-desert environment shows a high density of industrial infrastructure, where BLM RD 5410 and BLM RD 5406 navigate between deep-cut coulees. The water management of the region is anchored by the Jonah Reservoir in the southern portion of the quadrangle, serving as a critical point of collection for runoff from Jonah Gulch. The terrain is further shaped by the prominent Yellow Point Ridge and several distinct washes including Alkali Cr and Poston Draw, illustrating the complex topography of Wyoming's sagebrush country in the early twenty-first century.
