Gates of the Arctic National Park encompasses this wilderness landscape, where several significant northern watercourses converge. The Alatna River snakes through the western portion of the terrain, joined by the Pingaluk River at the far northwestern edge. Further east, the Nahtuk River carves a deep valley through the high country, eventually trending south toward the Millichetah Cr drainage. This 2016 survey illustrates the intricate drainage patterns of the Brooks Range, showing how these river systems define the topography and navigate the steep elevation changes of the central Alaskan arctic.
