Gates Of The Arctic National Park encompasses the vast majority of this wilderness area, where complex drainages define the high mountain terrain. The Kutuk River serves as the central hydrological feature, joined by several significant tributaries including July Cr and Coalit Cr. These watercourses carve through a landscape anchored by prominent summits such as Shivering Mtn in the north and Plateau Mtn to the south.
