Sweetwater Gap serves as a critical topographic divide in this high-altitude landscape, where the headwaters of several major drainages begin their descent. The Sweetwater River flows southward from the gap, while the Middle Popo Agie River and its many tributaries, such as Basco Cr and Tayo Cr, carve through the eastern slopes. This 2012 survey illustrates a terrain defined by glacial features and alpine meadows, including Pinto Park, Johnson Meadow, and Upper Hudson Meadow.
