The high-altitude terrain of the Wind River Range dominates this portion of the Continental Divide, where the borders of Shoshone National Forest and Bridger National Forest meet. The landscape is defined by its drainage systems and prominent peaks, including West Atlantic Peak, Atlantic Peak, and the distinctive Sweetwater Needles. A network of high-country routes facilitates travel through the passes, notably the Continental Divide National Scenic Trl and the Christina Pass Trl.

Water plays a critical role in the geography of the Fremont and Sublette county line, with the Sweetwater River and its numerous tributaries such as Larsen Cr, Pool Cr, and Blair Cr carving through the mountains.
